I wonder how many Latter-day Saints share my near-fetish-level preoccupation with our Constitution and the rule of law. When I see Trump and Musk going after federal spending with hammer and tong, but without benefits of congressional participation, Congress's constitutional role is the first thing I think of. Is there any survey data to illuminate this question?
😂 fetish level caught me off guard. I'll see what I can find and put in a future analysis.
That's a interesting angle-thank you for articulating it so well. I've also noticed this tension between deep reverence for the Constitution among many Latter-day Saints and supporting figures who sometimes sidestep traditional constitutional processes.
I feel like the conclusions generally reflect my feelings. However, on the economics, I disagree with how the current administration is going about saving the American public money. I want to see the government work to save us money, but I disagree with cutting government programs to do that. Those programs are designed to serve the American public and cutting them is a disservice to us. Inflation and taxes can be handled without damaging our government services. So I agree with wanting to save money; I just disagree with the support our enclave is giving the current governmental efforts to do that.
I think a restoration to minimalist government programs is needed, similar to the core functions seen within the Constitution, and not broadly expanding (and bringing with it an ever-fattening budget and debt). Get out of foreign entanglements, respect foreign sovereign rights and not interfere there on behalf of our businesses.
I had a few instagram commenters express similar dissatisfaction with Trump & Money - cutting a few things (and some of the wrong things) yet has very high spending.

good topic.
editorial note : They they are average on whether they believe climate change is a serious threat unlike Evangelical Hubs which are the lowest.
Haha I see you caught my typo too — appreciate you quoting that part!
