Where is Madison County? I see it's on the map but not the list. I remember finding a dataset on the ARDA (https://www.thearda.com/) that has religious membership for each US county, scaled so it is out of 1000. The estimate for Madison county was slightly *over* 1000.
So, that is actually not Madison county, its Jefferson county. They do border each other, so its understandable to get them mixed up. Jefferson county has a higher LDS population proportion at 82%. Madison is still high at 51% according to the US Religion Census calculation.
When checking my numbers, I did make a post update as there are actually two counties that had a higher number of records than current population. This update is now reflected in the post, so thanks for the comment which led me to check that!
The 2020 estimate of 51%. I haven't checked this in a few years, so was thinking of the 2010 estimate, which was 100.8%. I wonder if the method changed across the two waves (e.g., maybe one counted students and the other didn't?), because that's an enormous drop.
Oh wow - that is concerning. I wonder what changed between the two versions. I wonder if the church had a "cleanse" of records in that county because of BYUi between the two time periods?
Its most definitely not half of members leaving in 10 years 😂 Please let me know if you ever figure out what happened.

Alright... here's an update.

Ah, interesting. I found the data I was referring to: https://www.thearda.com/us-religion/census/congregational-membership?t=0&y=2020&y2=0&c=16065

I'm not sure. Let me double check a few things.
